Firefox Search Plugin Selection
Using a firefox search plugin has some advantages over a custom keyword:
- Firefox will suggest searches based on what you've typed so far and (I assume) what other people have searched for. This actually often helps me search better.
- Firefox keeps a history of my past searches.
- Search plugins are easy to create so I probably don't have to write my own firefox keyword.
- All searching actions are reachable in one place, using Ctrl-K.
One thing that took me a long time to figure out: You can scroll through your search engines using Ctrl-Up and Ctrl-Down (while the cursor is in the search field). This is a little worse than typing "Ctrl-L g g
" because it requires you to look at the search box (the latter can be done with your eyes closed). But given all the other advantages of OpenSearch, it's how I search nowadays.
